Technical notes:PSA / TSA Vessel
Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and temperature swing adsorption (TSA) separate or purify a gas from a mixture by exploiting how much an adsorbent holds at different pressures or temperatures, for example nitrogen and oxygen generation or hydrogen purification. Adsorber vessels cycle between pressurisation and depressurisation, so fatigue, adsorbent support and flow distribution must be designed in.
- Typical applications
- On-site nitrogen and oxygen generation
- Hydrogen and syngas purification
- Air drying and impurity removal
- Common materials
- SA-516 Gr.70
- SA-240 304
- Applicable codes
- ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1 (U designator)
- Taiwan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Rules and Construction Standards
FAQ
How is a PSA adsorber different from a storage tank?
It switches between pressurisation and depressurisation every cycle, so welds and nozzles see repeated stress. A fatigue assessment, adsorbent bed support and inlet/outlet distributors are needed.
Has HUNG JUNG built PSA vessels?
Yes. References include a PSA vessel (SA-516 Gr.70, 11.7 m³) and a catalyst vessel for San Fu Gas.
