Technical notes:Air Receiver
An air receiver sits downstream of the compressor to store compressed air, stabilise system pressure and reduce compressor cycling, while letting some moisture condense and drain. In Taiwan, a vessel holding gas at 2 kg/cm² (0.2 MPa) or more with a volume of 0.04 m³ or more is a Category 2 pressure vessel under the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Rules.
- Typical applications
- Plant compressed air systems
- CDA (clean dry air) in semiconductor and electronics fabs
- Instrument air in fertiliser and petrochemical plants
- Common materials
- SA-516 Gr.70
- SA-240 304
- Applicable codes
- ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1 (U designator)
- Taiwan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Rules and Construction Standards
FAQ
Does an air receiver need periodic inspection?
Category 2 pressure vessels must be inspected under Taiwan’s Safety Inspection Rules for Dangerous Machinery and Equipment. Confirm against the actual pressure and volume.
What air receivers has HUNG JUNG built?
References include a compressed air receiver for Taiwan Fertilizer (A240 304, 10.3 m³) and a 60 m³ gas storage tank for an industrial gas supplier.
